SD-Access Wireless HA Overview

SD-Access Wireless HA Overview

In SD-Access wireless networks, HA and redundancy are provided by both the WLC setup and by the fabric itself.

The main components for SD-Access wireless HA are:

  • Control plane redundancy
  • WLC redundancy
  • Rolling AP upgrades

Control Plane Redundancy

Control plane redundancy is based on a LISP map server or resolver with the following characteristics:

  • Host database tracks endpoint ID to the edge node bindings, along with other attributes (such as SGT).
  • The redundancy model supports active-active configuration.
  • WLCs (and fabric edges) communicate with two control plane nodes and synchronize information to both.
  • If one control plane node fails, all client information is available at the other control plane node.

Each WLC connects to both control plane nodes for redundancy.
