SD-Access Fabric Components
Below diagrams describes the fabric components used in SD-Access deployments
Now we will discuss each SD-Access Components and its terminology one by one.
Fabric Control plane node:
As soon as any devices or users attaches or roam to the system, the Control plane node tracks them and puts its information in central database systems. It allows network components like switches, routers, WLCs, to query this database to find where users or devices are attached to fabric.
As they track the specific endpoints (/32 for IPv4, or /128 for IPv6), they are also programmed to track larger summarized routes (IP/mask).
Fabric Border Node:
It has following specific functions:
- Fabric Border nodes not only connects to different fabric sites but they also connect to traditional layer 3 network.
- They are responsible for translation of context (user/device mapping & Identity) from one fabric site to another fabric site or to traditional network.
- Fabric control plane of different fabric sites exchanges reachability and policy information to fabric border nodes only.
There are two different fabric Border functions defined below:
- Internal Border: It advertises a defined set of subnets (branches / DC)
- External Border: It advertises prefixes belongs to unknown destination (Internet). Total 2-4 external border router are supported per SD-Access fabric.
Fabric Edge Node:
