USZscalar Platform Services
This chapter provides an overview of Zscaler's essential Platform Service functionalities through the Zero Trust Exchange. It explains their interactions with other areas of the ZTE and typical configurations and is divided into two main sections, each crafted to build your understanding gradually.
- Platform Services Overview: You will learn about Zscaler's Platform Services, which form a core part of the Zero Trust Exchange. These services encompass fundamental functionalities and enable other capabilities within the ecosystem.
- Zscaler's Platform Services Suite: In the second part, you will delve deeper into the critical role of device posture evaluation in enabling effective policy access control, including assessing security measures and components such as domain join status and the CrowdStrike ZTA score.
Zscalar Platform Services
Included within Zscaler’s holistic Zero Trust Exchange is the Platform Services suite, which contains a set of fundamental functionalities that are common across Zscaler's other service suites, including Connectivity, Access Control, Security, and Digital Experience.

Throughout this chapter, we will dive deeper into the services outlined in the image above that work to enable other capabilities and the actions they take within the Zero Trust Exchange including:
- Device Posture
- TLS Inspection
- Policy Framework

Device Posture
Device Posture ensures a minimum security level is present on the device before allowing access. In this section, we'll review the pieces of the Zero Trust Exchange diagram that are highlighted in red below.

Device Posture refers to the overall security state of a computing device—such as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet—based on its configuration, settings, and implemented security controls. It assesses how well a device is protected against potential cyber threats by evaluating its security health, risks, and vulnerabilities.
Device Posture is part of Zscaler’s Platform Services suite and can be accessed via the following path:
ZIA Admin Portal → Policy → Zscaler Client Connector → Administrator → Device Posture

It also leverages posture from other functionalities within the Zero Trust Exchange, including Browser Access, the Zscaler Client Connector in the Connectivity Services suite, and Identity Integration.
Zscaler’s Platform Services offers four key features that make Device Posture an exceptional solution. These features include:
- Policy Access Control
- SAML Authentication Response
- Trusted Networks
- Browser Access
Device Posture for Enhanced Policy-Based Access Control
Device Posture plays a critical role in securing organizational networks and data by enabling informed, policy-driven access control decisions. By evaluating device configurations and security controls, it provides clear visibility into a device’s security state, allowing organizations to enforce access policies effectively.
